Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM Slider

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • What Is An OEM Prep Package And How Do I Know If I Have It
The OEM prep package consists of 4 "pucks" in the bed of the truck that will allow you to drop in puck style hitches for easy installation and removal, that gives you a completely clear bed when not in use. The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 you were looking at has four puck style feet that drop into the pucks and a lever on each leg that simply turns to lock or unlock the leg in the puck. The prep package will typically also...

  • Comparing 5th Wheel Hitch And Gen-Y Goosebox Options For Pulling A 5th Wheel With 2024 Chevy 2500
Hello Rege, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you are definitely on the right track with your thinking and with your assessment and comparisons of the products you mentioned. For the 5th wheel hitch, the Demco Auto slide # DM29GV and the B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3775 are the best two options as far as solid, durable USA made hitches. It sounds like you will be towing fairly often, so between those two options, I recommend the Demco. The automatic slider is extremely convenient...

  • Is The B&W Patriot W/ Slider Base Compatible With The Curt Adapter Rails # C88KR (16027)
Hey Ronnie, The crossbeam of the slider base on the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 unfortunately sits too low and fights for the same space as the handles/side mounting plates of the Curt Rail Adapter # C88KR (16027) so they would not be compatible together. The Patriot slider unfortunately isn't compatible with any puck-to-rail adapter on the market currently. You would need to switch to the Companion OEM # BWRVK3775 which would have the correct mounting points...

  • Determining Hitch Height Needed To Tow Trailer Level On 2020 GMC Sierra 3500
The correct height setting is going to vary by trailer but you can get there taking some measurements. First make sure your trailer is on level ground and then measure from the ground up to the bottom of the king pin. Then on your truck take a measurement from the ground to the truck bed floor where the hitch will sit. The difference in these two measurements will give you the hitch height so that the trailer is level. Next take a couple measurements to see what kind of bed rail clearance...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2025 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ a Factory Puck System
Hey Caitlin congrats on the new truck! The Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch item # C84FR is definitely a solid hitch that does mount directly to your Silverado's factory puck system. It has a 20,000 lbs capacity so it'll definitely have enough strength for your Keystone Cougar. The reason I like the Curt A20 item # C84FR is because of the dual-jaw system. They interlock when the jaws are closed, which ensures total security and grip around your king pin. This system is what is going to provide...

  • Is The Placement OF GM's OEM Puck System Supposed To Sit Behind The Axle
Hey Jerry, GM moved the placement of their puck systems starting with 2020 models so you are correct that the pucks would have the hitch not sit directly over the axle. GM did the math and made sure that this placement wouldn't adversely affect your towing ability so it's totally fine as is. Moving the weight towards the front of the truck helps distribute the weight between the the front and rear axles, whereas being behind the rear axle and closer to the tailgate will place more weight...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing 2021 Jayco North Point 310RLTS
Hey Brent! I do recommend using a slider to make sure you have clearance on those turns. The only exception is if you have a rotating pin box. If you don't mind a manual slider where you have to get out and engage the lever the best option is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3775. If you want an auto-slide then I recommend the PullRite SuperGlide # PUL83RR. This will also require a capture plate so you will need to identify your pin box to choose the right one. If you can send me the serial number...

  • Troubleshooting Pin Box To Tailgate Clearance Issues When Using A Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch
Moving your B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch to the rear most position will unfortunately place it closer to your tailgate. Since you have a shorter bed the slider is designed to add clearance from the cab but that will unfortunately cut out clearance from your tailgate. Most people who have this issue either leave their tailgate open when making tight turns, swap it out with a net like the # TR-03, or swap it out with a 5th wheel tailgate like the # VGM-07-100 that has a cutout for...

Hello Melissa; the OEM prep package is not something we offer. If you really want the underbed puck system with the gooseneck hitch you will need to get it from the Mopar parts site or through a local dealer. Since you're planning on using a B&W Companion, I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1320 instead. • Is Slider B and W Companion Hitch Needed for 2024 GMC 3500 Short Bed Towing 2000 Thor Tahoe 33TB
Hey Damon, thanks for the pictures of your camper. Based on that you would definitely need a slider hitch as the nose of your camper is as wide as they come and also your pin box isn't' extended. But no worries on that as that's what slider hitches were designed to work with so for the bed of your 2024 GMC 3500 Sierra short bed the Companion you'd want is the slider version part # BWRVK3775.

The B and W Companion Hitch part # BWRVK3715 does fit your 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 OEM rail kit. Now whether or not it's the correct hitch for you to use comes down to the nose shape of your trailer. If the trailer you have has a tapered nose you probably don't need additional turning clearance that a slider hitch would require. This is also due to fact your short bed is actually on the longer side of the short beds at 6-3/4 feet. But if you do need the turning clearance that a slider can...
